Peter’s Goals for CUSD
Stop the Waste
The Cabrillo Unified Governing Board has been generous with everyone except teachers and staff. While an offer of a 0% raise for teachers almost led to a strike, a revolving door of administrators have received lucrative contracts and bonuses.
The board recently approved a 500% increase in their own compensation. Two members voted against this decision, citing the financial struggles in CUSD, but three members gave themselves raises.
One board member told a construction firm, “Just tell us what you need and we’ll give it to you.”
The District must use its resources, including over $100 million in bond funding, wisely to serve educational goals. Peter will be your watchdog to ensure proper spending.
Keep Teachers on the Coastside
In 2023 and 2024, while Cabrillo Unified teachers struggled to receive an overdue, modest raise from CUSD, many teachers left the district and took jobs in other places. No budget formula can quantify the cost of this loss of talent and experience.
As a board member, Peter Tokofsky will value the contributions of teachers, providing fair compensation and opportunities for professional development. In addition, he will help implement and expand programs for teachers supporting their peers. Our greatest asset is experienced teachers who understand the Coastside and can share their knowledge with new teachers.
Make Cabrillo Unified a Hub for Innovative Education
With innovative, hands-on learning, Cabrillo Unified can and should become a center of innovative education programs focused on the science of climate change, agricultural technology, conservation, and more. Rather than merely “meeting standards,” the District needs to develop relevant and engaging curricula that will attract students and prepare them for the future.
