Declining Student Achievement
Over the past 8 years, test scores in CUSD have fallen while neighboring school districts have improved student achievement.
Financial Mismanagement
Over the past 6 years, state auditors have been called to CUSD twice. Very few districts in California have required multiple visits from the state. Both reports found significant problems with CUSD’s administration. The 2023 report noted that the district did not follow earlier recommendations for improved accounting. During contract talks, an impartial, state-appointed mediator called out CUSD for failing in basic record-keeping, preventing transparent negotiations with teachers.
